"Man With Toy Gun Shot Dead by Police
updated 5:18 p.m. PT, Mon., March. 8, 2010
Police shot and killed a man today who pointed what turned out to be a fake gun at officers in Brooklyn.
Officers said they received a 911 call about a man with a gun near PS 194 in Sheepshead Bay on Monday afternoon. When police arrived at the scene, the man pointed the gun at cops and refused to drop it, law enforcement officials said.
The NYPD said the officer discharged three rounds, striking the suspect.
The 23-year-old male was taken to Coney Island Hospital where he was pronounced dead shortly after 4 p.m. Sources said he was not a student and it is still unclear why he was brandishing the toy pistol."
While I'm assuming the gun pictured is the one that the "suspect" was holding that got him killed, it is clearly not an Airsoft gun. HOWEVER, it was a toy gun that was allegedly brandished in public, resulted in a witness calling 911 and consequently ended the 23-year-old's life.
This is exhibit A why you don't go showing off your new piece around town. Save it for the field. If you have to transport your Airsoft gun in public, like from your house to the field or to your local Airsoft shop for repairs, keep it in a gun case and out of sight from the public. You're asking for trouble if you are out and about with your airsoft gun in plain sight. Now I'm not saying a gun case would have saved the guy in the news brief, but I did want to highlight the fact that it was because he had it out in public that someone called the cops. Assume people will do the same to you.
If you are dying to show the world your newest piece, snap a few photos of it and throw them up on a forum. Or send them to me and I'll post them here on the blog.
