My AAR for the Pyramyd Airsoft Blog
Opening Ceremonies on the campsite Saturday morning:

Americans (tan) on the left, Russians (woodland green) on the right.
So a few weeks ago, I spent the weekend out in Southern California, Whittier to be precise, with a couple hundred hardcore Airsoft players. We all came together to play some good ol' fashion "shoot 'em up" on the grounds of the now-retired Fred C. Nelles Youth Correctional Facility. To say I had fun is like saying Winston Churchill was just a regular bloke. UNDERSTATEMENT. Don't ask me where the Churchill reference came from. He really has nothing to do with this blog.
Here's a bunch of the Special Operations troops, including me. I'm the tallest dude there, with the green King Arms IBH Helmet & ESS Turbofan Goggles in the back.

"Game On"
My good friend, Ben, loaned me his HPA-powered Airsoft sniper rifle for the weekend. It's called, "The Assassin" and is a one-off piece by Right Hook Fabrication that he's had for awhile and I finally convinced him to let me borrow it. .
The Assassin is based off of a KJW/Tanaka M700 bolt-action rifle, and was retrofitted with the M24-style adjustable stock, along with a custom, molded cheek-rest.

Oh yea, then there's the Assassin's special stubby outer barrel that RHF designed in CAD and then machined from a block of premium-grade aluminum (or "aluminium," depending on your global region). This rifle is perfect for CQB/MOUT applications, like the OP: Red Storm II MOUT AO, because of it's short stature, yet long-range interdiction capabilities. You'll note that there is, in fact, an air hose coil connected to the magazine, which should remind you that this runs on high-pressure air (HPA) and, as such, puts out extremely consistent shot-to-shot velocities (an extremely crucial attribute for Airsoft guns in general, but especially the sniper rifles).
The Americans (Marines, Rangers, & Spec Ops)

Troop transport was slick since there were roads going all throughout the AO, making it easy to insert onto opposite sides of the field within a minute or two, without exerting hardly any energy, except if you want to wave to Dave (hey, that rhymed!) on your way past him in the jeep...

If an explosion went off behind these guys, I bet "frumpy face," above on the left, wouldn't look back at it. He'd just keep on truckin' cuz "cool guys don't look at explosions." I'd flinch like a big dog because I'm sensitive to loud noises though, so I couldn't boast of such things.
Some of the Roughnecks Airsoft Detachment letting the Reds know why Communism failed...

Look at that. They even call their hits. Textbook integrity.

RAD's Delta One, looking squared away and ready to F.S.S.U.

Some of the guys from Tactical Simulation Operations Group (T-SOG) laying down some 6mm hate.

Monte Le Gould would be proud, boys.
Yea, so what if I'm in the bushes?

All these cool guns, and my wife notes, "wow, that grass looks really cool." Total Airsoft-Gun-Admiration-Fail. She's still a Work-in-Progress.

I won't lie, I'm about to get fragged out shortly after Dave snapped this photo. At least I had my pistol drawn for the impending close-quarter engagement.

I spy some Hatchet Force operators operating stuff.

Please exit the vehicle and begin shooting to your left...

No, that's not heart-break you smell, it's "Blind Fire."

Scrambled eggs.

Whoops! Game over.
The Reds

I fought the LAW, and the LAW won. No seriously, the Russians did some serious winning that day.

Hey dude, I can see your BB! Nice camera work, Dave.

Custom-fabbed PKM, so we had to get a shot of it.

More Russians, up to no good.

Airsoft.

Below is a move called the "Human Shield" and is generally frowned upon by the human you're using as your shield.

Igor working the camera like he was born to do it.

"They're hiding the vodka over in that container with the homie in the white lab coat." I think that's an MG42, which you just don't see too often.

"That chick over there said you had some vodka, but she didn't say that it was in your pants."

"This one time at band camp..."

Even though shooting glasses were against the rules (full-seal goggles only) per the Red Storm II WarnOrd, this Airsoft Fashionista (right) opted for style? over safety compliance.

Neck protection, via beard:

Proof that not all Airsoft players are ugly.

I'm not entirely sure this gentleman is real clear on the concept of how a hop-up works, but it looked cool when Costa did it with real gunz.

Quasi-Hispanic Suicide Bomber
AC-130 Gunner
AC-130 Gunner ruining a few players' day with that minigun (I think it's a Piper's Precision model)
How does that phrase go again? "Two Echo1 M240 Bravos are better than one," i think...
Faces have been blurred to avoid any allegations of defamation...
...but somebody ought to brief this guy that before you try to spit game at the hottie Lion Claws Angels, you should probably square your trap door away ahead of time...

*falsetto voice* Awkward.
Search & Seizure
Get 'em high!Como se dice, "My brother is going to shoot you once or twice if you try to get loco on me, sir"?
Miranda who?
It's not what it looks like. I swear.
A great accessory for the Echo1 M240 Bravo is a tall, Pyramyd Airsoft Blogger.
Math question for you, if Todd has an M249 Para there, and I've got my M240 Bravo, does that mean the two of us are running an M489?
Waiting to get my suppressive fire on:
Tom is wearing:
- King Arms IBH Helmet
- ESS Turbofan Goggles
- 5.11 Tactical Series Rapid Assault Shirt in licensed Crye Precision Multicam
- 5.11 Multicam Ripstop TDU Pants
- 5.11 Tactical Series "Hard Time" Gloves by Ironclad Performance Wear, with padded, hard knuckle guards (BRAND NEW AND AMAZING!!!) My new favorite gloves.
- 5.11 Tactical Series VTAC LBE Vest
- 5.11 Tactical Series VTAC Assorted Pouches (Stacked Double Mag, 6x6, H20 Carrier, Dump pouch, etc)
- 5.11 Tactical Series VTAC LBE Battle Belt
- Plenty of WE Hicapa pistol mags to fill those 5.11 Tactical Series VTAC pistol mag pouches
- 5.11 Tactical Series VTAC 2-point padded Sling
- 5.11 Tactical Series 8" ATAC Side-Zip Boots (not pictured)
- And, of course: the Echo1 M240 Bravo
Dan Costa, CEO of 5.11 Tactical Series, doesn't horse around. I've been wearing most of his gear since about 2008 and it's still going strong. I admit it's a bit pricier than your average Condor gear, but I'd be willing to bet your Condor gear won't last as long as your 5.11 stuff. My Condor gear certainly hasn't. Nothing against Condor, though. They do make some pretty good stuff for the price. I just prefer to save up a few extra bucks for the 5.11 gear and not have to worry about a lot of wear and tear being placed on my loadout because I know it can handle it. This is definitely a situation where you get what you pay for.
Running with an M240 Bravo is no simple task (without looking like an idiot).
This is my idiot face...
Todd gives a thumbs up for the Pyramyd Airsoft Blog and Operation: Red Storm II.
Operation: Red Storm II in Whittier, CA was a great time. I would absolutely go back, if it weren't the last year they'll hosting the game here, which is a total bummer. However, I'm sure John Lu has a few tricks up his sleeve to secure a new venue of equal or greater quality as the Fred C. Nelles facility. Next stop, Lion Claws X, Evolution: Real World at the former George Air Force Base in Victorville, CA during Memorial Day Weekend coming up in May. I'm going to have to bust out my thesaurus to pick out some extra awesome ways to say how extra awesome this AO is. Holy crap, I just peed a little from the excitement.
