Primary Weapon Systems (PWS) Diablo AEG by SOCOM Gear
You don't often see that kind of versatility on Airsoft guns. It's nice to have that many options for configuring your sling setup, which is a very important, yet often over-looked aspect to operating like a boss out on the Airsoft field.

Below, you can see what lies beneath the SOCOM Gear PWS Diablo's bolt cover, which, like every AR15-based Airsoft AEG I've ever seen, includes the hop-up dial and a view of the cylinder seated inside the grey gearbox shell.

I did notice that the hop-up dial was secured tightly by the screw you see in the photo, which required me to exert a bit more effort to adjust it. This, however, has a much better plus-side to it though. The hop-up arm will be less likely to move out of place during game play, which means you will spend less time having to readjust your hop-up. While tightening the hop-up dial is usually something most people can do, usually it is something most people HAVE to do because the manufacture doesn't do it for them. Not the case with SOCOM Gear apparently. CONVENIENCE WIN!!!

Next is something I found a bit odd, but nothing negative by any means.  They are using G&G Armament high-capacity M4 AEG magazines.  Guess they didn't want to take the trouble to design & make their own if there was already something out there that they could use.  From a cost standpoint, this makes total sense to me.  If you didn't see the bottom of the mag where the G&G logo has been stamped, you'd never know the difference.

The SOCOM Gear PWS Diablo comes with a standard, M4 crane stock which allows the user to run several different stick-type AEG batteries, either in the NiMH genre or my preference, the Lithium-Polymer (Li-Po) category.

You can see now that I've removed not only the stock's butt plate, but also the smaller piece pictured above to reveal what's inside the stock.  If you want to use a Li-Po stick battery, you'll need to pull that piece with the three rings out first.  I believe it's there to seat 9.6V NiMH nunchuck batteries a little more securely inside the stock and to help alleviate potential issues when retracting the stock.  That's my best guess.  Judge me as you please.

Alright.  Here's another plus for the SOCOM Gear PWS Diablo AEG: I love this style of grip...

It's larger and has texture, but it's not uncomfortable to hold like the standard AR grips, in my opinion.  Granted, I have larger paws than the average bear, but the grip is not so large than only giant, lanky freaks like me can hold it comfortably.  You regular freaks will probably find it agreeable as well.

As far as the true performance of the SOCOM Gear PWS Diablo goes, I have not yet had a chance to take her out for a spin during a game. I have fired a few shots in my backyard to get a feel for the rate of fire with an 11.1V Li-PO battery as well as to see what kind of shot-to-shot consistency it had in terms of accuracy. The rate of fire met my satisfaction and expectations. Without actually doing a legit test yet, I'm guessing around 20 rounds-per-second, give or take 10 rounds-per-second. I can't be wrong with that kind of spread. TWSS. I was pleased to see that the BBs were no flying all over my target when I was firing on semi-auto to see how consistent the gun was firing. It didn't seem that the velocity was a bit low, but I have a sneaking suspicion I know the cause, and therefore know the solution. So I'll provide the full details on that in the third installment of my review for the PWS Diablo AEG by SOCOM Gear (makers of the "ever-most" glorious CheyTac M200 Intervention Airsoft Sniper Rifle). Speaking of which, while completely irrelevant to this review, now that you've made it through and will need something else to entertain you until I can muster up another entry here on the Pyramyd Airsoft Blog, check out this awesome promo vid for their CheyTac replica.
Bob Lee Swagger would be proud, SOCOM Gear.

Airsoft.
