Test Driving the KWA Mk23 USSOCOM GBB Pistol

So I had this great review planned out today. I had the opportunity to demo the KWA Mk23 USSOCOM Gas Blowback Pistol today.

But then disaster struck...

My camera battery went MIA, as I had taken it out to charge & couldn't remember where I put it. Couple that with the fact that my phone battery died (because it's a POS Droid V1) and I wasn't really left with a whole of options. Of course, for better or worse, my Droid battery died after it managed to take these three horrible photos you see here. I suppose they're better than nothing.
I'm not saying the gun is horrible, just the photos.  So I do apologize.  But anyway, I can still provide my assessment, which is this: The KWA Mk23 USSOCOM pistol not only blew back with its awesomely heavy recoil, but it also blew my mind.  What a freakin' solid gun.  Really snappy blowback and tons of power.  I was using .25g BBs with the hop-up unadjusted and was still easily hitting my bagel-sized target at 20 yards.  Once I adjust the hop-up, things got even better.  Angels started to sing the most incredible melodies in complex harmonies.
The gun chrono'd with .20g BBs and using Green Gas.  Truth be told, the gun was running a bit too hot for what I'd consider to be an appropriate velocity for a CQB pistol.  The first shot registered at 418 fps and the last shot in the mag still clocked in above 400 fps at 402.  Conditions in the building were nothing special.  Mid-seventies, so it's not like there was an excessive amount of heat in the environment to jack up the velocity.  I'd say this is definitely more of an open field gun.  Throw your old Tokyo Marui mock suppressor on this gun and install a longer tight-bore barrel inside the Mk23 and you've got yourself a long-range handgun for sure.

I'd also like to point out that the KWA Mk23 (or the Marui, for that matter) is not so much a handgun as it is a handcannon.  It's got a massive frame and an ultra-wide grip, which will make it difficult for anyone suffering from CCHS (Circus Carny Hand Syndrome aka small hands) to effectively operate this Airsoft gun, especially if you tried to attempt any one-handed, Hollywood moves.

After this evening's KWA Mk23 extravaganza, I'd say this fine piece will likely need to find a place in my personal collection.
