big shot of the week, tim carpenter, Pyramyd Airsoft Blog, Tom Harris Media, Tominator
Congratulations to Tim C. for winning this week's Big Shot of the Week, which, for those of you that ignore the last bit in each of my blogs here, is a weekly contest that Pyramyd Air hosts on each of its Facebook pages (one for the Air Gun page and one for the Airsoft page).

Each week, winners like Tim here get 50 bucks ($50 U.S. Currency) to blow at www.PyramydAir.com AND we make their winning entry our profile pic for the week.

If you'd like to win as well,
all you need to do is upload a photo of your own that complies with our rules (click the photo or the link above in bold) and you're entered to win.

Pyramyd Air Booth, Shot Show 2012 - Air Guns

While at Shot Show 2012 this year, I was feeling a bit frisky and decided to stop by the Pyramyd Air booth to get a look at a little different genre of guns that I normally deal with: Air Rifles.  Turns out, there are some pretty awesome Air Guns out there and I thought I would take a moment to broaden your horizons a bit.

Here are a couple basic facts about Air Guns:
Just joking, I'm not even going to pretend to know anything about Air Guns.  Your best bet, if you'd really like to know is to check out this article over on Pyramyd Air's Air Gun blog, written by world-renowned Air Gunner, Tom Gaylord.

That's right, Pyramyd Air has two fantastically awesome blogs, each written by a dude named, Tom.

Check out all the sweet photos I got at the Pyramyd Air booth from Shot Show 2012 after the jump...

Here are some high-end competition Air Guns from Feinwerkbau (dollar says they're German) and Anschutz (another dollar says they're German as well).

Here's a few more shots of the Feinwerkbau and Anschutz rifles.  For more info on any of these guns, just click the photos and they'll take you to the product pages at Pyramyd Air where you can get all the details.  Also, check out our Air Gun Academy, as it's likely he'll have some more intel for you there as well.

Look at the pretty colors...

If you feel like getting surgical with an Air Gun, my guess is that the two rifles featured above are probably going to be the equivalent of computer-controlled robotic scalpels.  Holy crap.  They even smell like accuracy.  It's hard to describe.  You really have to just get up close to one and waft in the aroma of precision rifle.***  It's quite breath-taking.

***The two of those rifles combined account for well over 6 grand in U.S. dollars.  I wouldn't recommend actually trying to get close enough to smell them where you might run the risk of getting germs from your mucus membrane on the rifle may occur.  Also, the act of "wafting" is also ill-advised in the event you actually hit either of the rifles with your hand and knock one off the rack and onto the floor.  These are the type of items where if you break it, you will either buy it or you may end up in the same condition as the gun you just busted.  At least that's how I'd feel if they were mine.  Just sayin'.

That's some crazy business right there.

I love that grip!  It's super ergonomical two.  It's as if the wizards at Feinwerkbau somehow stole a mold of my actual hand and then made the rifle's grip based off of it.  'Twas a perfect fit.

"Adjustability" does not end before you get to the trigger.  Look at that thing.  You won't find a cool trigger like that on an Airsoft gun (unfortunately).

Just below that beautiful Feinwerbau 700 on the wall, was the Anschutz 9003 Premium S2 Precise Air Rifle.  While it lacked the vibrant color scheme of the Feinwerkbau, it made up for in other areas.

One of those areas that primarily caught my eye pretty much immediately upon sight was the apparatus affixed to where one would normally find a boring butt plate or pad at the end of the stock.

I don't know about you, but it looks like if one were to should the rifle, those knobs would physically attach themselves to your body, essentially making you and the rifle one entity.  Whether you become the rifle or the rifle becomes you is unknown, but what I do know is that is some space-age stuff right now.  I love finding really cool, really unique stuff like this.  That's the beauty of Shot Show.

I do apologize for not being able to provide any viable information on these guns, so I would again like to remind you to head on over to the Pyramyd Air Gun Academy or check out the individual product pages on www.PyramydAir.com for more information.

Here are a few options from a company called, Evanix.  While these are technically pellet-firing Air Guns, Scott from the Pyramyd Air booth informed me that they're similar in some regards to Airsoft guns, primarily in terms of their internal mechanisms.  They utilize the same type of battery packs and have at least one or two gears inside that work within the entire internal system to propel the pellets at high velocities down range. High-pressure air is still the primary component in these guns that powers the projectile, however.

It would be worthwhile to note that unlike Airsoft guns, Air Guns are NOT for shooting other people with during MilSim games.  They're way too high-powered.  They're designed for target shooting and hunting (animals, not humans).  Don't be an idiot.

Ah yes.  The big bore rifles for big boy shooters.  These things were just plain badass.  Hanging with ultra swagger on this wall are four options from a company known as Sam Yang

Just below the .50 Cal Dragon Claw on the wall was the Big Bore 909S Air Rifle by Sam Yang, but somehow I failed to grab an individual photograph of it.  Stupid A.D.D.

Third down on the wall hung the .357 Caliber Recluse Air Rifle from Sam Yang.

This one probably had the most intricate engravings of all four.  And naturally, when take a peek at the larger version of the image, you'll likely notice that I failed to properly capture its essence. My apologies to all.  I can only do so much with my limited abilities.

So there you have it.  Just a small glimpse into the Air Gun world, brought to you by the Pyramyd Air booth from Shot Show 2012.  This was the only booth I stopped which featured Air Guns, but I can tell you just from seeing those rifles pictured above, I'm quite a bit more intrigued about these things.  They look pretty fun to shoot.

What about you?

Does any of that strike your fancy, or would you prefer to stick with 6mm plastic projectile platforms?
