I am writing this blog not only because my own lower-face mesh mask came unglued after I left it in my car during a hot summer day in the high desert of Southern California, but because I know several other people who have also had similar issues with their masks. Not to sound like a cheap-skate, but I can't say I was too interested in shelling out another $20 bucks for a new mask, so I decided to see about just fixing the one I had.  I was very glad about my decision in the end.

*I added an asterisk in the title of this post because if you don't have the correct tool(s) already for this procedure, then it would not technically be free for you.  This is assuming you already have something that would work.

The technique is actually quite simple.  All you need is some type of heat-source like a hot glue gun (you don't even need the glue sticks, just the gun), soldering iron or just a plain old heat-producing gun that will allow you to reheat the glue that is already there along the edges.  See photo above.

Start at one end of the section that has come unglued and simply apply heat to the exposed dry glue to melt it again, then press the fabric liner down on both sides of the mesh edge.  Continue down that edge until all the fabric is again sealed along the edges of the mask.

Voila.

Good as new.

I know that I said you don't need the glue sticks, if you're using the hot glue gun, and I stand by that, but they certainly could come in handy if you happen to get a mask where not much glue was used by the manufacturer in the first place.  In that case, it may be best to add more glue in order to create better adhesion and help to prevent the need to repeat this process again in the future.
